Dear LGS member/visitor,
Let’s Get Started this past week has attended the ‘EVS we can’ Contact Making Seminar in Verona, Italy which informed young people and youth workers about the European Voluntary Service also known as Action 2 and helped them build a partnership between each other to implement future EVS projects. This CMS also informed the participants about the process of accreditation that includes sending & hosting volunteers and also coordinate evs projects. We had the chance to see how a long term activity was implemented and also the outcome of it. At the end of the seminar the participants came up with four projects that may be perfected and implemented in the near future.
If you want to have more information about the European Voluntary Service and volunteering in general than contact me at olsicelaj@letsgetstartedalbania.org, and also if you want to be a volunteer don’t hesitate. It will be an amazing life changing experience!

Young journalists, photographers and videographers are invited to compete for eight prizes in the ‘Europe is More Than You Think’ Award 2009, organised jointly by the Council of Europe and the European Youth Press, the network of young media-creators.
We want journalists, photographers and videographers who share our values, to look beyond the headlines which dominate the common understanding of Europe – big government, international finance and trade agreements – and capture the Europe which, all too often, goes unnoticed.
Our challenge to young media specialists is to cut through the stereotypes and received opinion of what Europe is, to show what Europe really stands for and what it means to be European in the 21st century.
For 60 years, the Council of Europe has promoted human rights, democracy and the rule of law. As an international institution, it has sought to bring a human touch to the European agenda, working, for example, to stop the death penalty, improve economic and social rights, safeguard the quality of medicines and end discrimination in all its forms.
The award is open to residents of Council of Europe member states, with the most important rule being that entrants must be aged between 18 and 27. The closing date for submissions is 6 December 2009.
The top submissions will be announced in December 2009. The first prize winners in each of the four categories will receive a 4-day paid visit to Strasbourg, France, to attend and report on the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which takes place on 26-30 January 2010. Second and third prizes are Software packages by Adobe and books.

You want to do what you believe in and not follow the orders of somebody who pays you? Have you thought of being your own boss, of being an entrepreneur?
If yes, you are different. The majority of people in Europe have never had such ideas. Maybe people simply do not know what the entrepreneurial spirit is all about. Can you explain it in a video?
Maybe people are afraid of trying something new. Can your video encourage them?
We are looking for videos that explore one of the following subjects:
“The entrepreneurial spirit”, “Innovative Entrepreneurship”, “Responsible Entrepreneurship”
For the best video in each of the three categories the European Commission will award a prize of € 3,000, the second best video will be awarded € 2,000, the third best € 1,000.
The producers of the best videos will be invited to the opening event of the European week for small and medium sized enterprises on 6 May 2009 in Brussels, Belgium.
Here you can find the promotion sheet on the award.

After a period of quiet, necessary to all of us, the activity of the participants and the ones who are interested to lead forward the LGS projects has vigorously started. The first weekends of November have been a little intensive, concerning the city co-ordinators’ trainings in Tirana, the 4th, 5th and 11th of November. Various cities of Albania, wherefrom we’ve had participants in the summer school, have already opened their respective clubs and chosen their co-ordinators, who keep continues, contacts with Tirana’s supervisors. The different cities’ co-ordinators got together on the 4th, 5th and 11th of November at British Council’s offices in Tirana to take part in a training concerning the organisation of the project (Mosaic). The treated topics of the training were very striking:
1. Active citizenship
2. Project management
3. Leadership
The trainings have been very interesting and now it is expected the respective co-ordinators to get together their clubs and to show them the topics and the main parts of these trainings, also to channel them towards the continuity of the project. One of the main points emphasized in this project was how to organise these clubs, how to get them together, and how to benefit from them. The idea of having a compact group, guided by a capable and efficient leader was well-marked during all the training. The idea continued even in the way of organising and working with the project, managing it. The main points on how this project will be managed by the local leaders during the incoming months were obviously highlighted. It’s of course the duty of an able person to guide and make them work together as a group, in order to attain as much ideas and achievements as possible in this project. During this training the main points of the project’s implementation were also made known:
1. The realisation of the projects in city levels
2. Exchange
3. Citizenship festival (where the Tirana club holds the main organisational task, without ruling out the possibility to any other LGS’ member to contribute with his ideas)
Now everyone is fully included in the general project network of LGS.
